RUA NEWS 2008
Week 10 (17/6/08)
Welcome back for another week of RFL and FFL action. To try and combat our numbers problem we have come up with a solution to try and help. The following is from our Director of Umpiring Peter Hughes explaining the changes to how some under 18 and 2nd grade games are umpired.
At the RFL meeting Narrandera during
the week, the club delegates accepted our proposal for mentoring of club umpires
at showcase games for the remainder of the season.
That is from Round 10 (this weekend) RUA will provide a senior umpire from
a nominated list and an observer to run with the home and away club umpires
for the under 18 and reserve grade game.
The senior umpire will give on field coaching and direction to the club umpire,
whilst the observer will provide constructive written feedback on the club
umpire in both games. In the proposal, we have nominated that the club umpires
will rotate qtr x qtr that is there will only be 2 umpires on the field at
any time. For the first 3 quarters the club umpires will be one on and one
off with the off field umpire sitting with the observer, talking about the
game and receiving information such as positioning and back up needs that
can be put into practice in the next qtr when they are on the ground. In the
final quarter, the club umpires will run together and be observed by both
our observer and the senior central umpire. This process is repeated for the
reserve grade game if required.
For the remainder of the home and away games, clubs will provide a central
umpire for each of the under 18 games other than the showcase game each week
to run with one RUA umpire. Some clubs have stated that they do not have a
club umpire for the 18's, for those clubs RUA will provide 2 umpires as normal.
Clubs that have found a under 18 umpire are:
Griffith, Ganmain, Mangoplah, North Wagga and Tigers
Clubs that have not found a under 18 umpire are: Eastern Hawks, Leeton/Whitton,
Turvey Park, Narrandera and Coolamon.
As before stated, this arrangement will start this week.
So in brief:
1. Under 18 games other than showcase games the RUA will provide a single
running umpire for home games of Griffith, Ganmain, Mangoplah, North Wagga
and Tigers. RUA will provide 2 central umpires for home games of Eastern Hawks,
Leeton/Whitton, Turvey Park, Narrandera and Coolamon for the under 18 games
for the remainder of the season including this weekend.
2. Showcase games only
RUA will provide 1 senior central umpire for the 18s and reserves as well
as an observer for on field and off field coaching/mentoring of club umpires
The list of umpires nominated for
coaching/mentoring club umpires are:
Gene Hodgins, Tim Beard, Greg Walsh, Duncan Potts, Rob Wilson, Scott Crowley,
Patrick O'Donoghue, Russell Walker and Mark O'Brien
Observers are:
Gene Hodgins, Peter Hughes, Rob Wilson and Tim Beard
