You must remember to notify the player or players of the report as soon as possible. All players reported must be sent off as per the send off guidelines (unless a player is reported by a boundary or goal umpire then a player cannot be sent off).
As soon as possible either at half time or full time you should write down everything in regards to your report ie; your version of the report. Include everything that happened before, during and after the incident so that you can include it in your evidence at the tribunal.
At full time you should then fill out the Official Report Sheet. Remember to sign each copy separately and also make sure that the report goes through onto each page.
Once your Report Sheet is filled out you must place the top copy (white copy) in the league paperwork envelope, then give the yellow copy to the offending players Club Secretary. The blue copy goes to the opposing club if necessary and the pink copy is to be kept for your records.
You should also notify the RUA Coach or RUA Advocate of your report.
The following guidelines should assist you in the event you are to report an incident pertaining to a 'Reportable offence" as defined in the Laws of Australian Football 2006
a) Where an umpire reports a player or official during the course of a match, the umpire shall use his or her best endeavors to inform the player of official of the report:-
b) The umpire shall use his or her best endeavors to inform the person against whom a reportable offence has been committed of the report (if applicable).
c) An umpire may inform the captain, acting captain or official of a team of report where it is impracticable to inform the player or official who has been reported.
d) Apart from informing a player or official of the report, an umpire shall not speak with the reported player official or any other player or official about the report which has been made.
Also make sure that you are familiar with the order off rule. If the player has committed an offence under 20.2 to 20.3 he is to be ordered from the ground under RED CARD. All other offences are to be handled according to the order off guidelines in this handbook, ENSURE YOU ACT ACCORDINGLY. Clubs can argue on technicalities.
